Liquid Culture is a cheaper and faster way to grow mushrooms than spore syringes. Mycologist Caine Barlow teaches you how to prepare liquid culture, how to make a magnetic stirrer, how to make airport lids, care and maintenance of your LC, and more.

Everyone has their favorite grain spawn recipe for growing mushrooms. In this episode, Caine Barlow walks you through the many ingredients that you can use, different kinds of spawn containers, and how to take care of your grain spawn to avoid contamination and mold.

Your fruiting chamber is your home for your mushrooms—and there are many different kinds. Mycologist Darren Springer will show you how to build a shotgun fruiting chamber and a monotub, and will also review Martha’s Closet, a more advanced tek for once you graduate to the next level of growing.

There are many different recipes for bulk substrates—or the final medium (like soil) that your mushrooms grow in before they’re ready for harvest. Darren Springer will help you navigate the complicated world of substrate ingredients and brands including coir, manure, straw, and worm castings.

Your mushroom cultures can live on for years with the right techniques. In our final episode, mycologist Dr. K Mandrake teaches how to take a spore print, how to make a spore syringe, agar recipes and how to make plates, how to isolate clean healthy cultures, how to clone mushrooms, and tips for building a culture library.

Once you’ve successfully grown mushrooms, the final step is to harvest them. The process is slightly different depending on whether you’re growing woody mushrooms, like Reishi, or softer mushrooms, like Lion’s Mane. We’ll teach you both methods as well as how to do flushes so you can get multiple batches of mushrooms out of the same tub!

There’s a few different ways to dry your mushrooms—with a dehydrator (there’s two different kinds) or in the sun. In episode seven, we’ll show you the pros and cons of each, as well as help you avoid some common mistakes.

If you want your mushrooms to last a long time, you gotta store them properly. If you store them too soon, you can cause contamination. If you store them in a container that’s not airtight enough, they can go bad. In our final episode, we’ll review best practices so you can enjoy the fruit of your labor for years to come

Why This Course?

Unlike with online forums like Reddit, with our course, you get access to leading mycology teachers who will support you every step of the way.

Once you’ve learned how to make liquid culture and agar plates, you’ll never need to buy spores from an online retailer again—and you’ll have an infinite supply of shrooms.

When growing for the first time, you can waste a lot of time and money trying to get it right. Armed with this intermediate knowledge, you’ll be better at spotting and managing contamination early so your chances of success go up.

Not all mushrooms grow the same way. We’ll empower you to move beyond shrooms that grow on rice, to all kinds of species including wood-loving ones like Lion’s Mane and Reishi.

You’ll get access to an invite-only, private DoubleBlind community to bond with and receive support from your fellow growers.
